2010"Equine Images"
Amateur Photography Contest Rules
Entries:
All entries must be original works created
by the entrant, reflecting your own creativity and effort.
By entering this contest, the entrant certifies that
their contest entry is their own original work with
full copyright owned by the entrant.
Entries should not be works that have
previously won any awards in prior contests.
No entry may be joint works comprised of works from
multiple photographers or artists.
"Amateur" is defined as a photographer who
currently does NOT offer his/her services for a fee
or has accepted fees for photographic services within
the past 5 years.
Copyright
of contest entries remains the property of the contestant.
By entering this contest, entrants are giving permission
for their photo entries to be displayed on CSI web site
(www.curlysporthorse.org) for the purposes of promotion
and/or reporting the results of the contest.
Entrants acknowledge that they have sufficient permission
of any recognizable models or other persons appearing
in the photograph to be able to grant CSI the right
to publish the submission online, and hereby grants
CSI such right.
IF
a photographer would like CSI to post copyright versions
of photos on the web, two copies must be submitted.
One with NO copyright on the image to be submitted for
judging and with the photographer's copyright on the
image, to be displayed on the web, after judging is
complete.
$10 entry fee per entry. Top entries will receive individual
feed back from the judges, plus ribbons and entries
willl be available for Viewer's Choice voting after
the contest results are posted to the web site.
Photo
Categories:
Performance:
Sport Horse performance in motion (i.e. Dressage,
jumping events, combined driving, driven dressage) in
training, work or competition, all breeds allowed. Race
horse/track photos are not eligible in this category.
Horses
and Humans: Show
the relationship between horse and human. Must show
horse(s) and human(s) interacting,
all breeds allowed.
Head
Study: One
or more horses, head only, no people,
all breeds allowed.
At
Liberty: Show
the horse in its natural environment: pasture, in the
wild, etc. Both still and motion photos are eligible,
photographers choice! All breeds allowed.
Humor:
This category will be judged on the photographic
quality of the photo and also the ability to inspire
laughter! Keep in mind "humor" is subjective
but if your photo makes you laugh out loud, it may tickle
the judge's funny bone too!
Creative: This category will allow computer
alteration of images, either enhancement, combining
images, or any creative techniques you can imagine!
The entries will be judged on the quality of the photos
and the creativity of techniques applied to the photos
as well. The photographer must have taken all photos
used in this category.
Judging:
The
contest entries will be judged by Jan Galland, Horse
Feather Photos. Jan is an award winning professional
photographer who's photos are currently on display on
the web and beginning June 15th, Jan will have some
of her equine theme photos on display at the Mary Karam
Gallery in Texas. For more information and to view Jan's

Feather Photo
Jan will evaluate entries for usage of light, color,
creativity and impact, equipment expertise, plus technical/artistic
expertise and suitability of photos to category entered.
Judge's comments will be returned to the top 10 photos
in each category via email.
General
Rules:
Entries must be submitted via email as
a .jpg file.
Cropping allowed, but computerized
enhancement of entries should be restricted to photos
entered in the Creative Category.
Any photos submitted in printed form will not be judged
and entry fees will not be refunded. Digital only, please!
File size must be under 1 MB
No identifying text overlay or photo credit or logo
allowed on contest entries to be submitted for judging.
However, if you want a different version (i.e. with
copyright information) displayed on the web, please
submit two copies of your photo.
Photo Title submitted with the entry will not be considered
as part of the judging process but will be included
in the web display of the top 10 photos in each category.
Images not adhering to size limitations will not
be submitted for judging. Resizing (and therefore allowing
entries to be judged) may be performed by CSI upon request
at the cost of $10 per image resized.
All submissions are final.
Any entries sent directly to the judges
will be disqualified.
Entries not considered in compliance with contest rules
and conditions or those considered inappropriate or
offensive will be disqualified and removed from judging
without refund to the entrant.
Entries received without full payment will not be judged.
Payment by check must be postmarked
no later than August 14th, 2010
Electronic submissions must be received no later than
midnight August 15th, 2010, EST in order to be considered
for judging. No late entries will be accepted.
CSI and CSI appointed judges will not be liable for
any omission, loss, damage, delay, ineligibility, alteration
of or unauthorized access to entries submitted, nor
for loss or injury to any entrant or entrant's property
due to participating in this contest.
If the contest cannot be run as planned for any reason,
including computer viruses, tampering, technical or
other problems which damage it's operation or integrity,
CSI and/or it's appointed judges reserve the right to
cancel, delay or modify this contest.
Winners will be awarded by email, at the email address
provided by the entrant. Although every reasonable effort
will be made to contact each winner, CSI is not responsible
should prizes go unclaimed.
This contest shall be governed by, and in accordance
with, the laws of the State of South Carolina.
This contest is void where prohibited by law.
